Austin-based, Dolby Atmos-outfitted Recording Studio, Studio Hill, Announces Official Grand Opening This September 9.

Austin’s newest premier recording studio and rehearsal space, Studio Hill Austin, announces their official grand opening will take place Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 6-10 p.m. Located at 4401 Hennig Dr., Austin, TX, 78738 the studio was founded by GRAMMY-winning singer Sangeeta Kaur and is operated by 40-year veteran and GRAMMY-winning engineer, Gerhard Joost. Created as more than a recording studio, the space is a creative sanctuary where artists can retreat, dream boldly, collaborate deeply, and bring meaningful work to life. Now, after three years in the making, Studio Hill Austin has entered a new era of immersive sound with their Dolby Atmos enabled recording studio. The grand opening event, in collaboration with Dolby, will allow guests the opportunity to experience the immersive Dolby Atmos ecosystem across the studio, home, and enabled vehicles, offering a glimpse into the future of music and storytelling. This special celebration will feature bites by Leave It To Kievit, craft cocktails by Austin Rainbow and live performances by extraordinary artists from across the country. Complimentary street parking is available. Due to the limited capacity of the space, the event is invite-only, but music industry professionals and media are invited to attend. At the helm of Studio Hill Austin is founder, owner and GRAMMY-winning Vietnamese-American soprano, Sangeeta Kaur, and engineering “maverick” and legendary recording engineer and producer Gerhard “Juice” Joost II, who acts as the studio’s Chief Recording Engineer. Upon its inception, Kaur and Joost envisioned Studio Hill Austin not simply as a place to record music, but as a welcoming home for creativity - a place where artists and members of the creative community can gather, collaborate, explore new ideas and feel inspired to do their best work. In addition to the recording studio and rehearsal space, Kaur and Joost have established accommodations on the property that artists can rent to create a retreat, have access to the facilities and utilize the space for small private performances.

Studio Hill Austin features robust Dolby Atmos creation, mix, monitor, and playback workflows from a full 9.1.6 speaker configuration to a variety of monitor, downmix, and re-render capabilities from surround sound (7.1, 5.1) all the way to stereo (2.0), as well as headphone and binaural monitoring, including Apple Spatial Audio. All made possible by the ease and flexibility of Dolby Atmos.

Over the years, Kaur and Joost have collaborated on numerous projects and creative endeavors at Studio Hill Austin, including releasing Kaur’s own expansive body of work: Niguma, Ascension, Mirrors, Compassion, Illuminance, and Aurora. In 2021, Joost recorded and mixed Kaur’s album, Mythologies I, which won the GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album at the 2022 GRAMMY Awards, where Kaur became the first Vietnamese-American singer to receive a GRAMMY in a vocal category. The duo followed up with Mythologies II which earned a nomination at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards in the Best Classical Compendium category. Most recently, Joost served as one of the recording engineers for composer Patti Drennan’s Requiem of Light, which Kaur was a featured vocalist on. The record earned a nomination at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards for Best Choral Performance.

Joost is a master studio craftsman whose innovation and meticulous recording precision can today be heard in sound recordings around the world. His early commercial audio work was transformative for dozens of top brands like Coca-Cola, Chevy, Lexus, Disney, Coors, Goodyear, Budweiser, Nike, American Airlines and more. He’s worked with A-list artists like Stevie Wonder, Usher, Silk, H-Town, Jodeci, Al Green, Gladys Knight, Dru Hill, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Michael Jackson, Danny Elfman and many more. His success continues into the world of streaming as well. In 2026, Joost mixed Becoming Me by local Austin artists The Blue Octava, which surpassed one million streams on Spotify, further demonstrating the continued reach of his work across classical, choral, contemporary and popular music. From analog tape and landmark recording studios to GRAMMY-recognized projects and million-stream digital releases, Joost continues to combine the technical mastery of a veteran engineer with the creative instincts of a producer still pushing recorded music forward.

Kaur is an accomplished recording artist, arts philanthropist and concert and event producer who creates work that reflects her deep belief in the power of music to connect and inspire. Classically trained, she earned her Bachelor of Music in Opera Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance. Her artistry brings together classical, cinematic, and spiritual influences, creating music known for its emotional depth, beauty, and sense of purpose. Kaur serves as a Governor of the Recording Academy Texas Chapter and on the Austin Opera’s board of trustees, where she continues to advocate for artists, collaboration, and a thriving creative community. Whether she is performing, producing a concert, supporting fellow artists or creating spaces for collaboration, Kaur’s purpose remains the same: to use the power of music and the arts to bring people together, foster meaningful connection, and inspire what is possible.
